The use of colour and font in relation to visual communication in primary education...

Did you know that 70% of our sensory receptors in our bodies reside in our eyes. This means our eyes pay most attention things especially when they catch your attention straight away. We don't realise how much we depend on our eyes. We take for granted things that we notice almost instantly. For example, take this sign:


The first thing you will notice is the bold red outline of the triangle. This is because red is a sign of danger or warning so we are instantly drawn to the colour red. You will also notice the big bold exclamation mark which is central to the sign. Imagine if the exclamation mark wasn't bold but thin and italic? It would not stand out as much. This is why we influence primary education with as much big text and colour as possible to ensure the children instantly recognise what is being shown to them. This technique also allows the children to remember a larger capacity of information.
